Playing the guitar feels like a natural skill for some. The moment they picked up their first guitar they fall in love. They’ve learned to strum out all kinds of tunes – and a few original hits as well!
Playing the guitar is a great skill to have under your belt. Even if you’re not wanting to pursue music as a career it can be worthwhile. But knowing how to play such an integral instrument will open up the entirety of the musical niche for you.
Here are just four different things you could end up doing as someone who knows and loves how to play the guitar.
Teaching Other Guitarists
If you’re a great guitar player, why not teach other budding young guitar players? Of course, you need to also have belief in your skill as a teacher, but if you’re willing to put some time in to make the guitar accessible for other people, you’ll have all the makings of a great tutor.
Host one on one sessions in your home or theirs, run online classes, or become an employed tutor at an educational institution. The latter may require some classical qualifications, but sometimes programs are run outside of the usual curriculum. For the latter, all you’ll need is the skill and an approachable vibe!
Songwriting for the Stars
Songwriting is quite the art. It requires an understanding of music flow and how lyrics can be made to fit within it. If you’re someone who’s been playing the guitar for a long time, you’re going to have a keen understanding of how all this works.
Even if you don’t know it, you’ve been playing songs for long enough now, meaning the mechanics of songwriting have been hard coded into your head. So grab your guitar, write out a few songs, and don’t be afraid to spread the demos you’ve made far and wide to get some attention and the great deal you’re looking for.
Your Own Record Label
People like Clive Davis can show us just how possible it is to start up a record label. Sure, a lot of the most famous acts that we all know and love have already been signed, but what about the acts of tomorrow? They don’t all need to be loaded onto the same four or five record labels that seem to have all the money in the world.
An indie label has a lot to offer an artist that’s got a powerful voice and the need for creative freedom! All you have to do is be in the right place to spot the talent and make the promises you know would benefit them the most. If you’re an artist yourself, that’s going to be an easy thing to understand, which is why your passion for playing the guitar is so crucial here.
A Key Member of an Upcoming Band
Many guitar players get into the music scene by playing in a band or two. You could do the same thing if you find a local band that’s also on the lookout for a new guitar player. Make sure you’re playing with a group of people who share the same passion for the genre you prefer and you’ll likely rub along well for a long time to come.
Of course, you could also flit back and forth between bands if you so choose. A lot of guitar players lend their talent to more than one act, and depending on who you meet and what you learn, this could be the best way to get yourself noticed.
There are Many Places Playing the Guitar Can Take You
If you love playing the guitar, why not consider a future making money and success off of it? It’s totally possible when you’ve got both the passion and the skill for it.
When you’re someone who has an ear for rhythm, an eye for detail, and the commitment required to learn the ins and outs of comfortably playing an instrument, anything could be possible.
